Peace Center History
The Peace Center of United University Church was started as a peacemaking ministry of the church during the threat of nuclear annihilation in the late 1980s. It has continued to grow and evolve over the years, but its three groups of constituents remain - campus, community and congregation. Over the years, The Peace Center has worked on war and peace, labor issues, environmental issues, health, housing, education and many others. It continues to be a vital ministry because of people like you - find out more and join the work!
The Peace Center of United University Church exists to engage any who seek the expression of shalom/salaam/wholeness/peace with justice for themselves and all of Creation.

May we pray, study, and work together to live into the vision of the peaceable "kin-dom" of God!
Chances are you recognize some of these names, but all of them? Yet, many of our children and youth from our summer Peace Camp could tell you about each one of these people. Each one is a "Peace Hero" who we studied because she/he has something to teach us about being a peacemaker.
We learned that "Peace Heroes" can be old or young, help farm workers or write poems, be female or male. They are just people who got involved in the work of peace and justice in their corner of the world. The amazing thing we learned in Peace Camp is that WE CAN ALL BE PEACE HEROES! All we have to do is get involved in the work of peace and justice.
The Peace Center of United University Church provides people of all ages with many opportunities for involvement in the work of peace and justice. Peace Camp is just one program of the Peace Center, one that allows children and youth to learn to be Peacemakers. There are many other opportunities for involvement, such as working on peace within us through Tai Chi, peace prayers, and labyrinth walks, or peace among us through our women's group in peacemaking and spirituality, working with the Figueroa Corridor Coalition for Economic Justice, or working on housing and homelessness, volunteering with our children's/youth programs, or organizing a group around a particular social justice issue. There is something with which each of us can get involved through the Peace Center!
